Port of Palembang will accelerate to repair its facilities and add one more reach stacker (RS) in response to slow productivity in the last several days as one of its rubber mobile gantry crane (RMGC) is not in operation while one container crane (CC) is in lower level performing.

Agus Hendryanto, General Manager of Palembang Port, affirmed to Indonesia Shipping Gazette on the slow productivity, but saying the port has provided an optimum service to customers.

In addition to the lower level performing of the CC and not operational of the RMGC, the high increase of the throughput has contributed to such slow productivity. So, there is a high increase in volume (throughput) on one hand, while on the other hand the facilities cannot show their maximum performance.

"But, everything is under control. We can optimize our service and the facilities which are now still in operation," Agus said, adding that the customers understand what is going on. "Until now, there is no complaints from our customers. Everything is under control."

Until October, according to Agus, Palembang enjoyed 30% volume (throughput) growth year-on-year, to 137,592 teus, from 108,668 teus until October 2016.
