Bengkulu Port and Provincial Govt Hand in Hand to Realize Baai SEZ

The special economic zone (SEZ)
of Baai Island in Bengkulu Province will soon be on stage as it has just been
registered to the Coordinating Ministry of Economy that is also acting as the National
Council for Special Economic Zone, thanks to the state port operator PT Pelindo
II Bengkulu and the Provincial Government of Bengkulu who have continuously
supported and sponsored the realization of this plan.


Recently, January 19, PT Pelindo
II Bengkulu and the Provincial Government of registered the SEZ to National
Council for Special Economic Zone. General Manager of PT Pelindo II Bengkulu
Drajat Sulistyo and acting governor of Bengkulu Rohidin Mersyah explained the
Baai SEZ concept to the council representatives, including the council general
secretary Enoh Suharto Pranoto, Head of Planning and Cooperation Mardi Santoso and
Head of Legal and General Affairs Paulus Ryanto.


Drajat Sulistyo explained that
the delegation has explained to the council that the Baai Port and the SEZ
would become the central for the economy growth in west corridor in general and
will trigger the economy growth of Bengkulu Province in particular.


Echoing the view, Rohidin
Mersyah this SEZ development will bring impact not only to Bengkulu Province
but to the west corridor of Indonesia.


"This special economic zone
will trigger the regional economy growth. The step has actually started with
the development of Baai Port,” Rohidin said.


Drajat affirmed it, saying: “We
have launched the development of liquid bulk terminal, for CPO (crude palm oil)
in particular.” CPO, according to Drajat, is one of Bengkulu’s leading
commodities.


In addition to the CPO terminal,
Pelindo II Bengkulu would soon to build dry bulk terminal and quarantine area
for livestock.


Drajat explained that PT Pelindo
II Bengkulu would totally focus on this program and would act as one of the key
stakeholder for the Bengkulu economic growth. Moreover, the port infrastructure
and services have proved its key role in the economy growth of a region.


"This is one of our
contribution (making Baai Port as a SEZ) to support the economy growth of
Bengkulu Province,” said.
