French container transportation and shipping firm CMA CGM has decided to deploy its innovative solution for containers tracking at a larger scale.

The company announced the commercialization of TRAXENS by CMA CGM and plans to make it available to all its customers.

The connected device solution is a product of the group’s investment in French start-up TRAXENS. CMA CGM has led several tests of the solution.

TRAXENS by CMA CGM is a connected box fixed on the container which enables enabling to measure containers’ position, anywhere whether at sea or on land, the intensity of potential shocks, external temperature variations, as well as monitoring the opening and closing of doors.

The data is transmitted in near-real-time, allowing clients to track their merchandise and be more reactive at every step of the transportation process.

Supply chain management is simplified via an online user-friendly interface updated in real time.

The solution also offers an extra diagnostic product option that can help improve supply chain optimization.

Apart from the transferred data, a project team follows and supports the customers in analyzing their data, enabling clients to identify logistics issues and implement concrete solutions to optimize costs and security.

CMA CGM senior vice-president of commercial and agency network Mathieu Friedberg said: “CMA CGM reaffirms its Customer Centricity Strategy by offering this innovative solution.

“With nearly 19 million containers carried in 2017, the generalization of smart containers in the Group’s fleet will allow to collect and analyze a lot of information necessary to improve the service offered to customers and will help them optimize their supply chain.”

Earlier this month CMA CGM collaborated with US-based startup Shone for embedding artificial intelligence (AI) on board ships.

The deal will allow Shone to access the CMA CGM Group vessels to finalize the development of AI-based systems on board container ships.
