New China to Iran Freight Train Beats Ocean Shipping

A new freight train service connecting Inner Mongolia to Tehran, Iran's capital, will cut shipping times by over half compared to ocean carrier services, according to China’s state-run news agency Xinhua. The test of the new route started with a train leaving the city of Bayannur in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on May 10, 2018. It will make an 8,352-kilometre journey through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan before arriving in Tehran 15 days later, shortening transportation time by at least 20 days when compared with ocean shipping options.…See Details...

Hapag-Lloyd CEO has Contract Extended

The supervisory board of Hapag-Lloyd has unanimously approved an extension of CEO Rolf Habben Jansen's contract for a further five years until March 31, 2024. Jansen was appointed member of the Hapag-Lloyd Executive Board in April 2014 and has been CEO since July 2014. Additionally, in the wake of a reorganization of Hapag-Lloyd’s Executive Board in March, management changes have been made in Asia and the Middle East. Beginning April 1, Lars Christiansen assumed the position of Senior Managing Director of Region Asia, in Singapore. Christiansen replaced Joachim Schlotfeldt, who was appointed Chief Personnel and Global Procurement Officer on the Executive Board. APL Further Reduces Fleet Carbon Emissions in 2017

Singapore-based shipping company APL managed to cut its carbon dioxide emissions per transported container per kilometer by 50.7% in 2017, compared to its base level in 2009. The company said that the achievement marks APL’s eighth consecutive year of improved environmental performance. “We are proud to raise the bar in reducing the carbon footprint of our fleet operations once again. Yang Ming Volume and Revenue Up in Q1, but Suffering Net Loss

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (Yang Ming) enjoyed a volume growth and revenue growth in first quarter (Q1) 2018, but it suffered a net loss of USD 67 million, the company report said as quoted by hellenicshippingnews. The report that has been approved by the Board Meeting on 11th May said that this shipping line handled as much as 1.22 million TEUs in Q1, up 9% year over year. Its consolidated revenues of Q1 totaled USD 1.07 billion, up 2.58% compared with USD 1.04 billion in revenue from previous year.
