Tanjung Priok container throughput dropped 7.7% in first half (H1) 2020, compared to the same period last year (2019), according to data from PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II/IPC.
Data released by the corporate says container volume in January-June 2020 reached 2.99 million TEUs, down from 3.24 million TEUs in H1 2019.
But, compared to the period of January-May, the driop in H1 was lower. In January-May, the drop was deeper, reaching 10.4% year on year.
IPC President Director Arif Suhartono affirmed the pandemic covid-19 outbreak that made the trade volume decrease had significantly affected the port productivity during the period.
Though there was an increasing trend in June proved by a better average compared to the first five months, but Arif affirmed the drop would continue to the end of 2020.
“Referred to the trend in the last months and in the first half in general, predictably the throughput for the whole year of 2020 will drop by more than 10%,” said Arif. N
Nodoubt, the port activity totally depends on the economy and trade activities, Arif explained further. “However, the port operation during the pandemic outbreak was running normal,” he said.
