Terminal Teluk Lamong has added an electric rubber-tyred gantry crane at Nilam Container Terminal (TPK Nilam) to expand handling capacity, improve operational efficiency and support lower-emission port operations
The electric-powered crane arrived from China aboard the MV Spring Shine on July 7 and will be deployed at the terminal after installation, testing and commissioning are completed.
The E-RTG has a lifting capacity of 40 tonnes and can stack containers one over six, strengthening container-handling operations at the Nilam Container Terminal’s storage yard, the company said.
Muhammad Syukur, Operations Director of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, said the investment is intended to improve the terminal’s operational readiness as container traffic increases.
“The addition of this E-RTG is part of the company’s commitment to strengthen operational infrastructure with modern and environmentally friendly equipment while supporting more reliable services,” Syukur said in a statement.
He said the project aligns with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo)’s broader transformation program, which promotes greater use of technology and innovation to improve productivity, efficiency, safety and sustainability across port operations.
Retno Pujianto, Terminal Head of TPK Nilam, said the new equipment is expected to improve yard productivity and service quality once it enters commercial operation.
The company expects the crane to begin operations in early October 2026 following completion of installation and performance testing.
Terminal Teluk Lamong said it will continue investing in infrastructure modernization and lower-emission technology to support Indonesia’s logistics sector and improve the competitiveness of the country’s port services.
