Eradicating Port Mafia, ALFI Calls for NLE Implementation

National logistics business players fully support the efforts of Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan to eradicate mafia practices at ports in order to streamline logistics costs and boost the national economy.

“We really support these government’s efforts (eradicating mafia practices at ports).  What the Coordinating Minister (Menko Marves) has said remains the government’s firm stance and commitment. This is a serious warning to all stakeholders at the port,” Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi, Chairman of Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders’ Association (ALFI), said in a press statement on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

To encourage a more efficient and transparent logistics services at airports and sea ports, he noted, logistics players, have called for the implementation of the National Logistic Ecosystem (NLE).

This NLE, he added, is very capable to improve supply chain management, thus creating a more efficient logistics process and costs. Even so, its implementation must be fully monitored so that all programs can run according to plan, and collaboration of all stakeholders is required.

“NLE is a big platform. It is a digital collaboration concept that allows logistics entities to connect with the government and other logistics platforms. In addition, NLE enriches the role of Indonesia’s national single window (INSW). Hence, NLE requires a collaboration of all relevant parties,” said Yukki.

He believes that the implementation of NLE will create a healthier port logistics service system, so that there will be no more allegations that lead to allegations of port mafia practices as stated by Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan highlighted the alleged existence of the port mafia, which he considered could hamper economic activities and the inefficiency of national logistics services.

Luhut hopes that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Indonesian Police will immediately act to investigate these issues.

According to Luhut, the bureaucracy at the port still needs to be addressed so that there are no more mafias that hinder economic activities at the port.

“I beg the KPK with the prosecutor’s office, the police to form a task force to monitor this. I think it’s good to be imprisoned,” said Luhut while attending the Stranas PK webinar entitled ‘Cutting Time and Costs at the Port’, Thursday (11/11/2021).
