Adapted from the webzine of Compass.HMM21.com, HMM’s twenty mega containerships have outstanding achievement in that the total cumulative transported volume recorded three million TEU. ‘HMM Hamburg’ departed from Port of Yantian (CNYTN) on February 8, and so total cumulative transported volume exceeded three million TEU.
This figure is the cumulative transported volume of twelve mega containerships of 24,000 TEU class and eight mega containerships of 16,000 TEU class. The figure combines both head-hauls in Asia to Europe and back-hauls in Europe to Asia.
Head-haul refers to export cargo from Asia to the United States or Europe, and on the contrary, the quantity loaded when returning from Europe or the United States is called back-haul.
In addition, it reaches a total of 169 voyages of HMM’s twenty mega containerships. The sailing distance to three million TEU totaled more than 360km, and the number of days of ship operation calculated 6,951.
If three million TEU of container boxes (1TEU = 20 feet container length: 6 meters) carried by HMM’s twenty mega containerships listed in a row, it is about 18,000 kilometers in length. When the loaded containers are stacked upward, they reach 7,770km (1TEU height = 2.59m).
The world’s largest ships can carry numerous cargoes, and also they can increase operating efficiency because of the adaption of most advanced technologies. Moreover, HMM is considering environment by adapting various eco-friendly equipment.
