The Batch-2 training program was held in Cilegon, Banten. The training was attended by 58 participants from ISAA Banten, Lampung, Pekanbaru, and a number of other relevant stakeholders.

The training program was opened by Dr. Eko Nugroho Wijatmoko M.M , the Head of PPSDM Training Division at Directorate General of Sea Transportation.

On his remark speech, Eko Nugroho underlined that this training is an obligation for all elements that handle directly or indirectly dangerous goods at ports, according to the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number 16/2021 concerning procedures for handling and transporting dangerous goods, such as shipping agents, PBM (stevedoring companies), BUP (port operators), TKBM (dockers), and others.

“This is in accordance with IMO provisions, to ensure security and safety to avoid unwanted things from handling dangerous goods that are unloaded or loaded at ports,” said Eko Nugroho.

According to IMO (International Maritime Organization), the Code sets out in detail the requirements applicable to each individual substance, material or article, covering matters such as packing, container traffic and stowage, with particular reference to the segregation of incompatible substances.

The Code, was initially adopted in 1965 as a recommendatory instrument.  It was in 2002 that the general Assembly at its seventeenth session adopted by resolution A.716(17) the IMDG Code, and decides to give it a mandatory status under the umbrella of SOLAS Convention, from 1 January 2004. However, some parts of the Code remain  recommendatory.

Meanwhile, Chairman of ISAA Reinhard Tobing underlined that this training is so urgent for many business entities, including shipping agents, PBM (stevedoring companies), BUP (port operators), TKBM (dockers), and others. Reinhard appreciates BP2TL Jakarta of its good cooperation to conduct this training.

As reported earlier, ISAA and BP2TL Jakarta had signed MoU for cooperation, including in conducting trainings for ISAA members..

“We hope that it will not only be training on the IMDG Code according to PM.16/2021, but also training on the implementation of PM 6 of 2021 concerning Procedures for handling and transporting solid bulk cargo,” said Reinhard Tobing.

Concerning the ISAA members response on this training, he said: “ISAA members in various regions are so welcome with this training. So that the next training would be continued in various regions if the minimum required numbers are available.”
