Asia will recover faster than other regions in the world, in view of economy growth and investment. Asia will also become centre of all logistics activities, according to Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi Indonesia Logistics and Forwarders’ Association (ALFI) Chair.
Yukki, who is International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) Regional Asia Pacific Chair said it in his presentation for FIATA HQ Meeting in Geneva on March 20-22, 2023. As many as 200 representatives from 60 countries joint this FIATA HQ Meeting.
Quoting some report and studies, he said that by 2030, Asia would account for around half of world trade growth. Hence, Yukki called for collaboration and logistical connectivity in the region.
On this occasion, the need to increase the capacity of human resources (HR) and adaptation in decarbonization efforts was also on a corridor topic for discussion. This is in view of the fact concluded from a survey. A survey of FIATA members in the world still said that costs related to efforts to decarbonize and increase human resource capacity remained the main concern of logistics businesses in the world.
The meeting also found the phenomenon of a shortage of drivers in the world and the lack of desire among young people to work in the logistics world.
“What is quite astonishing, India as the second most populous country in the world states a shortage of quality drivers of nearly 1 million people. Not to mention the continent of Europe, which has a shortage of up to 2.6 million drivers,” said Yukki.

Yukki said, if we are observant, Indonesia actually has the opportunity to supply the need for qualified human resources throughout the world. Moreover, he added, Indonesia already has the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) for Truck Drivers.
In this FIATA HQ meeting, ALFI also extended the agreement with FIATA in the use of FIATA documents for all ALFI members, including FIATA B/L documents as multimodal documents recognized by the ICC and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
This, said Yukki, would further strengthen ALFI’s position as a logistics service provider and multimodal transport operator in Indonesia that is recognized globally.
“All ALFI members can use this FIATA B/L in multimodal transportation activities, so that members’ operations and business permits become more effective and efficient,” said Yukki.
