PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), in partnership with PT Pendidikan Maritim dan Logistik Indonesia (PMLI), conducted a three-day Container Terminal Operation (CTO) training for operational employees from October 15-17, 2024, at Pelindo Place, Surabaya.
This training aims to enhance knowledge and skills regarding operational patterns and technology at container terminals, ultimately achieving Operational Excellence.
Muarip, Director of Operations at PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, opened the training and emphasized its significance. “This CTO training broadens participants’ understanding of container terminal operations and highlights the evolving technology in this field. Indonesia can compete with developed countries in container terminal services,” he stated.

David Pandapotan Sirait, President Director of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, echoed this views, stressing that employees are the company’s most valuable asset. “To achieve our vision and mission, we must first enhance our employees’ capabilities,” he noted.
Training participants will gain comprehensive insights into several key areas, including Shipping Industry & Containerization, Terminal Design, Capacity, Facilities & Equipment, Business Processes & Organizational Structure, Terminal Performance & Safety, and Terminal Operating Systems (TOS) & Revenue-Cost management.
The CTO training not only aims to increase knowledge but also to improve the skills of operational employees. This aligns with the operational standardization transformation program across the SPTP group container terminals, implementing a planning and control-based operational pattern. Skilled employees will significantly impact overall company performance.
PT Terminal Teluk Lamong has reported positive results in the third quarter of 2024. The number of ship calls rose by 8%, from 1,109 in 2023 to 1,199 this year. This increase in ship calls corresponded with an 8% year-on-year rise in container flows, from 610,600 TEUs in 2023 to 658,526 TEUs in 2024. Additionally, dry bulk cargo increased by 7%, from 2,731,860 tons in 2023 to 2,914,695 tons in 2024.

The rise in ship calls and corresponding cargo flows can be attributed to efficient operational services, resulting in shorter berthing times and quicker turnover for vessels at the pier.
Notably, domestic transshipment containers from Western to Eastern Indonesia, such as Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, and Jayapura, increased from 33,978 TEUs in 2023 to 47,123 TEUs in 2024, a remarkable 39% rise. As a result, PT Terminal Teluk Lamong has positioned itself as a key terminal hub in Eastern Indonesia.
David highlighted that excellent operations drive performance improvement. He expressed optimism that Terminal Teluk Lamong would serve as an effective connector between Western and Eastern Indonesia. “By optimizing operational services based on planning and control, PT Terminal Teluk Lamong can provide fast and efficient services for our customers,” David said.
