The Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association Chapter Jakarta (INSA Jaya) has officially appointed Ir. H. Andi S. Patonangi as the Interim Chairman, effective immediately. He will serve the position until 2026, completing the term of leadership left vacant after the passing of Capt. Alimudin, M.Mar.

The decision was made during a Management Meeting held by the INSA Jaya DPC. It underscores the organization’s dedication to ensuring leadership continuity and maintaining the stability and effectiveness of the DPC as it fulfills its essential role within the shipping industry.

The appointment process followed the INSA DPP (Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association Central Management) Articles of Association (AD/ART) 2023-2028, specifically Articles 12, Paragraphs 3 and 5. These stipulate that in the event of a permanent vacancy in the Chairperson position, a new leader can be selected through a Management Meeting.

Election Process

Candidates for the role of Interim Chairperson were limited to members of the DPC’s leadership team, including the Deputy Chairperson, Secretary/Deputy Secretary, or Treasurer/Deputy Treasurer.

During the meeting, attended by 23 administrators and 3 members of the Supervisory Board, the Secretary/Deputy Secretary and Treasurer/Deputy Treasurer declined to be nominated. This narrowed the pool to two candidates: Arwan Selmianto (Deputy Chairperson I) and Ir. H. Andi S. Patonangi (Deputy Chairperson II).

A closed voting process was conducted, overseen by A. Nababan, S.H. (Legal Division), M. Jufri Hardianto (Organization Division), and Andrian Pattikawa (Organization Division). The results were as follows: Arwan Selmianto received 3 votes, Ir. H. Andi S. Patonangi secured 18 votes, and 2 votes were declared invalid.

“With these results, the meeting has legally and unanimously determined Ir. H. Andi S. Patonangi as the Chairperson of DPC INSA Jaya (PAW) until 2026. We will immediately forward the Decree of Determination to the DPP INSA,” Pahala Sianturi, Deputy Treasurer of INSA Jaya, stated on March 24, 2025.

Extensive Maritime Experience

Ir. H. Andi S. Patonangi is a well-respected figure within the maritime industry. He is the Owner and President Director of PT. Puan Ramadha Karya, which operates a fleet of tugboats providing ship assistance across various port business entities. With a background in Naval Engineering from Hasanuddin University (1993), he has accumulated extensive experience in shipbuilding and shipyard contracts.

In addition to his business ventures, Andi S. Patonangi has been actively involved in maritime associations. Since 2019, he has served as the Chairperson of the Hasanuddin University Naval Alumni Association and is the Daily Chairperson of the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering Alumni.

The election meeting was conducted in a transparent and democratic manner, with oversight from the DPC INSA Jaya Supervisory Board members: Dr. Sungkono Ali, Martisu Hamra, and Theo. The Supervisory Board encouraged the DPC administrators to remain united and solid in their efforts to advance the organization’s objectives.

Strong internal consolidation is seen as crucial for enhancing the DPC INSA Jaya’s ability to provide optimal services to its members. The organization aims to further strengthen strategic collaborations with key stakeholders, particularly in the Marunda and Tanjung Priok regions.

As the new Chairperson, Ir. H. Andi S. Patonangi reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the work programs already outlined by the previous leadership and adhering to the rules set by the DPP INSA. He emphasized that his leadership will focus on enhancing member services, optimizing the association’s role within the shipping industry, and fostering stronger partnerships with both government and private sectors to cultivate a progressive and sustainable maritime business ecosystem.
