Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS), a container terminal operator and a subsidiary of Pelindo’s terminal subholding PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP), has added a new international shipping service to its operations, further strengthening trade connectivity between Indonesia and North Asia.
The service, known as the NCI NJX NIS, began docking at TPS in early August. It is operated by a consortium of global shipping lines, including PIL (Pacific International Lines), X-Press Feeders, and HMM (Hyundai Merchant Marine). The rotation includes major ports such as Singapore, Tianjin, Qingdao, and Xiamen.
Four vessels from PIL and X-Press Feeders have already called at the port. On Aug. 6, the MV Hyundai Unity (Voyage 0173N), operated by South Korea’s HMM, made its maiden call at TPS, handling more than 1,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
“With this new service, we aim to enhance the reliability and flexibility of direct shipping connections in the region, offering greater options for our customers,” said TPS Operation Director Noor Budiwan.
Noor Budiwan added that this marks HMM’s first return to TPS in over a decade as a vessel operator, underscoring a renewed strategic partnership. “This is a vote of confidence that we are committed to uphold,” he said.
TPS promotes itself as a “one-stop terminal service,” offering integrated customs and quarantine facilities. Its continued investment in digital systems aims to meet customer demands for speed, reliability, accuracy, and security, the company said.
Richard Mamarimbing, Branch Manager of HMM Surabaya, welcomed the milestone. “This is our first ship to call at TPS in ten years, and we are committed to expanding our presence in Surabaya and East Java’s import-export sector,” he said, thanking TPS for the successful handling of the vessel.
TPS handled 1.58 million TEUs of container traffic in 2024 and reached 908,136 TEUs by July 2025. The terminal holds an estimated 83% market share for international container traffic at the Port of Tanjung Perak.
