JICT Reaffirms Commitment for Sustainable Growth with Local Community

PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), Indonesia’s leading container terminal operator, reinforced its commitment to supporting communities around its operations by distributing food aid to vulnerable families in North Jakarta as part of Pelindo Day 2025.

The outreach, held on Thursday, marked the fourth anniversary of the merger that created state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo).

JICT, a joint venture between Pelindo and global port group Hutchison Ports, joined nationwide efforts to strengthen ties between ports and the communities that surround them.

In North Jakarta’s coastal district of Cilincing, JICT handed out 100 basic food packages to children and staff at the Merah Putih Foundation, a grassroots organization that supports low-income families in one of the capital’s most underserved areas.

“This is part of our ongoing responsibility to ensure that the benefits of our operations are felt directly by the communities nearby,” said JICT Corporate Secretary Raditya Arrya during the visit.

Cilincing, located along Jakarta’s northern shoreline, is home to thousands of families facing persistent socio-economic hardship, including limited access to education, healthcare, and stable employment. The area’s proximity to major port infrastructure has not always translated into economic opportunity for residents.

JICT, one of the country’s busiest and most strategic container terminals, has increasingly focused on inclusive growth. The company’s participation in Pelindo Day reflects Pelindo Group’s broader push to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals into port development.

“Modern ports are not just about cargo throughput, they are part of the social fabric,” Arrya said. “We believe that growth must happen alongside the people who live around the port, not apart from them.”

Pelindo Day 2025 featured similar initiatives across multiple port locations nationwide, reflecting a shift in the state port operator’s role, from a traditional logistics provider to a partner in sustainable, community-focused development.
