Pelindo Unveils Bali Gapura Marina, Indonesia’s First International-Standard Marina

Indonesia’s state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) on Tuesday officially named its new Bali Benoa Marina as Bali Gapura Marina, marking a major step in the country’s push to boost high-end maritime tourism.

The marina, developed in Pelindo’s Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) at Benoa Port, is being built by Pelindo’s logistics subholding, PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik (SPSL). The project advances plans first set in motion during a groundbreaking ceremony in May.

Covering 33,000 square metres, Bali Gapura Marina is designed to host 180 yachts, including 50 superyachts of up to 90 metres. Planned facilities include a premium yacht club, crew centre, MICE areas, food and beverage outlets, offices and retail space.

Pelindo said the name “Gapura” — meaning “gate” in Balinese — reflects the marina’s intended role as a cultural entrance point to the island while offering international-standard services.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said the name underscores the government’s ambition to elevate maritime tourism as part of national strategic projects. “Every ship is welcomed to Bali Gapura Marina as part of a cultural journey,” she said.

Pelindo President Director Arif Suhartono said the project highlights collaboration between government and private partners and positions the marina as Indonesia’s first full-service international yachting facility. “Pelindo remains open to developing other world-class marinas across the archipelago in line with our long-term vision,” he said.

SPSL President Director Joko Noerhudha called the marina’s construction a “milestone” in building a sustainable, technology-driven maritime tourism ecosystem. He said SPSL will continue working with strategic partners to meet global service and environmental standards.

SPSL has partnered with PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI) to develop and manage the marina and its commercial areas. MDI President Director Ulf Backlund said construction is progressing, with Pier B completed in July and ready to accommodate vessels. He said the next phase includes full technical service facilities by mid-2026, expansion to 180 berths—including superyacht capacity—by the third quarter of 2026, and a waterfront lifestyle hub scheduled for 2028.

A soft launch is expected in the fourth quarter of this year.

The project is drawing attention as Indonesia seeks to tap the growing global superyacht market. Despite having more than 17,000 islands and vast coastal tourism potential, Indonesia has lacked a marina offering comprehensive international-standard services. Pelindo says the Bali Gapura Marina will help fill that gap and strengthen Indonesia’s position as a premium maritime tourism destination.
