SPJM Deploys 89 Tugboats, 69 Pilot Boats in Anticipating High Vessel Traffic During Ramadan Season

PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (SPJM), a leading provider of pilotage and towage services, is set to deploy 89 tugboats and 69 pilot boats to accommodate the anticipated surge in ship traffic during the Ramadan season.

As a subholding of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), SPJM specializes in marine services, port operations, equipment, dredging, and shipyard services. The company is fully prepared to handle the increase in passenger flows during the homecoming period, as well as the heightened demand for goods distribution leading up to the Lebaran holiday. This rise in passenger and cargo volume is expected to correlate with a significant increase in ship traffic.

SPJM plays a pivotal role in maintaining the smooth operation of maritime activities at the port. According to a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT), an estimated 146.48 million people—over 52 percent of Indonesia’s total population—are expected to travel during the 2025 Eid holiday.

This surge in travel will naturally lead to a spike in ship traffic. To meet this demand, SPJM is deploying 89 tugboats, 69 pilot boats, and 312 pilot personnel to support operations across 42 ports designated for the 2025 Eid transportation activities.

Tubagus Patrick, SVP Corporate Secretary of SPJM, commented, “We are ready to ensure the smooth flow of ship activities across all our service areas during this critical period, with a particular focus on maintaining safety and efficiency.”

To support the 2025 Eid transportation, SPJM has ensured the readiness of operational personnel, including pilots, radio operators, and planners, by implementing a shift-based system.

This approach ensures that operational officers remain on duty and do not take leave during peak periods. SPJM is also committed to safeguarding the physical and mental well-being of its staff to maintain high levels of focus and alertness.

In addition, the company has ensured the preparedness of its fleet, including tugboats, pilot boats, and kepil boats, as well as critical pilotage infrastructure like pilot stations, operational vehicles, and communication systems.

These measures are in place to ensure seamless ship pilotage and towage operations.

Commitment to Service Excellence and Safety

SPJM is dedicated to maintaining high service standards throughout the Lebaran period. The company will adhere to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regularly update weather information from BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency).

It will also coordinate with the KSOP (Port Authority) Office and local stakeholders to ensure safety in case of adverse weather conditions. Additionally, an Emergency Response Team is on standby to manage any potential incidents.

To improve service accessibility, SPJM has digitized its operations through the Phinnisi application, which is integrated with Inaportnet, offering users access to services anytime, anywhere. SPJM also operates a 24/7 call center at +62 811 5350 7878, where service users can submit inquiries, suggestions, or complaints, ensuring prompt resolution.
