Lamong Container Terminal (TPK Lamong), operated by port operator PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), reported record container throughput in August 2025, reflecting strong regional economic momentum and rising demand for logistics services.
Between January and August, the terminal handled 608,867 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 4.7% from 581,525 TEUs during the same period last year, TTL said in a statement on Friday.
August alone saw throughput climb to 87,416 TEUs, marking the highest monthly figure recorded this year and a 4% increase from 83,743 TEUs in July. The growth was driven by an uptick in both international and domestic traffic, with several ad hoc vessel calls and new services boosting volumes on key routes such as Belawan and Tarakan.
“The surge in activity is a clear indicator of user confidence and a testament to East Java’s strengthening economic landscape,” said Pierre Rochel Tumbol, Terminal Head of TPK Lamong.
According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), East Java’s economy expanded by 5.23% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, supported in part by a 9.32% surge in the transportation and warehousing sector—one of the highest across all industries.
TTL, a subsidiary of state-owned port operator Pelindo, has been ramping up its operational efficiency through digitalization and data-driven planning. Tumbol emphasized the terminal’s focus on technology to enhance performance and customer service.
“Digital transformation and the implementation of planning and control-based operational models are key to delivering faster, more reliable service,” he said.
In support of its digitalization goals, TTL recently hosted a company-wide awareness event centered on the COBIT 2019 IT governance framework. The initiative aimed to align IT infrastructure with business strategy while improving risk management and corporate governance.
The company said the framework will help TTL sharpen its strategic focus and maintain high service standards across all its terminals, positioning it to capitalize on the continued economic upturn.
