Better Planning Leads to Calmer Post-Eid Container Terminal Operations

Ship calls and container throughput at IPC TPK’s container terminals fell in the post-Eid period in 2026 compared with the pre-holiday period, reflecting earlier shipment scheduling and adjusted logistics flows, data from the operator showed.

Ship calls declined 27% to 88 vessels after Eid from 121 before the holiday, while container volumes dropped to 47,775 TEUs from 77,577 TEUs over the same periods.

The company said the decline reflects a recurring seasonal pattern as shippers accelerate cargo movements ahead of Eid al-Fitr to avoid operational restrictions and congestion at ports.

During the first week after Eid, terminal operating capacity was capped at 50% under traffic management arrangements, before gradually returning to normal levels in subsequent weeks.

IPC TPK Corporate Secretary Pramestie Wulandary said the pattern indicates improved planning among logistics stakeholders.

“Service users now tend to make deliveries earlier, before the period of operational restrictions and traffic management at ports,” she said. “After Eid, ship activity does not experience the same surge as before, but tends to return to normal or even decline.”

She added that the shift reflects better coordination between terminal operators, shipping lines and cargo owners.

IPC TPK said lower post-holiday traffic does not indicate weaker overall logistics activity, but rather a redistribution of cargo flows aimed at avoiding peak congestion periods.
