The newly renovated YASPI Education Foundation serves nearly 700 students from primary through high school. The project included the renovation of six classrooms, 15 lavatories, a teachers’ room and a computer laboratory, the construction of an additional classroom, and the conversion of a shipping container into a library.

The inauguration was attended by Ikram Ghazali, General Manager of CMA CGM Indonesia, and Sylvia Beiwinkler, Chief Executive Officer of Happy Hearts Indonesia.

The container library provides students with a dedicated space for reading and learning, reflecting the partnership’s effort to combine infrastructure improvements with educational support.

“Today marks another important milestone in the CMA CGM Foundation’s partnership with Happy Hearts Indonesia,” Ghazali said. “Through the renovation of this third school, we are providing nearly 700 additional children with a safe and inspiring place to learn, grow and prepare for their future.”

Beiwinkler said the upgraded facilities would help create a safer and more supportive learning environment for students who had previously studied in inadequate conditions.

Since 2024, the CMA CGM Foundation and Happy Hearts Indonesia have collaborated to renovate schools in underserved areas across Indonesia. The first two projects, SMP Tri Guna Bhakti and SMP Bina Karya in Surabaya, have improved learning conditions for nearly 800 students.

A fourth school, MTS El Nur Kasysyaf in North Jakarta, is currently undergoing renovation and is expected to open in the coming months. The facility will accommodate around 100 middle school students, bringing the total number of children benefiting from the partnership to approximately 1,600.

Beyond upgrading school infrastructure, the initiative includes a three-year training program for teachers and school administrators covering financial management and governance to support long-term school sustainability.

Employees of the CMA CGM Group also participate in the program through volunteer activities, including assisting renovation work and organizing reading sessions and sports activities for students.

According to the partners, the combined projects are expected to benefit more than 6,000 people in Jakarta and Surabaya over the coming years.
