Ekanuri Explores Global Maritime Partnership With COSCO

Business visit to COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry explores cooperation in shipbuilding, repairs, technology and fleet development, supporting Indonesia’s shipping competitiveness through international partnerships and knowledge transfer.

Indonesian shipping company PT Pelayaran Ekanuri Indra Pratama (Ekanuri) visited the headquarters of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. in Shanghai to explore cooperation in shipbuilding, fleet development and maritime technology as part of efforts to strengthen its competitiveness in the global shipping industry.

The visit reflects Ekanuri’s strategy to expand its international partnerships as the shipping sector undergoes rapid transformation driven by technological advances, efficiency demands and stricter sustainability standards.

The meeting was facilitated by Mohamad Erwin Y. Zubir, Secretary of the Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association Capter Jakarta (INSA Jaya), who helped connect the Indonesian shipping company with one of the world’s largest shipbuilding and ship repair groups.

Ekanuri’s delegation was led by General Manager of Operations Mardiansyah and included Assistant Director Jeremia Dirgantoro, Fleet Manager Alvino Shelvion and Designated Person Ashore (DPA) Capt. Syafwardi.

COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry was represented by Director of Repair & Retrofit Jony Guo, Regional Manager of Repair & Conversion Department 2 Liu Yajun, Head of Repair & Conversion Department Huang Bing and Head of Shipbuilding Department Geace Feng.

The companies discussed potential cooperation in new vessel construction, ship repair and maintenance, vessel conversion and the adoption of modern maritime technologies. Discussions also covered operational safety, fleet reliability and opportunities for long-term collaboration.

For Indonesian shipping companies, partnerships with international shipbuilders can provide access to advanced technology, modern shipyard facilities and operational expertise that support higher efficiency and service quality.

The meeting also included discussions on developments in the global maritime industry, where changing trade patterns and stricter environmental requirements are driving demand for more efficient and lower-emission fleets.

Ekanuri said it appreciated the reception from COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry and expressed hope that the discussions would lead to concrete and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The company said the initiative forms part of its long-term strategy to strengthen operational capabilities and expand its presence in the international shipping market while supporting the development of Indonesia’s maritime industry.
