Banjarmasin Container Terminal received a three-star rating, while Bitung Terminal earned a two-star rating. The awards were presented by Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan during a ceremony in Gresik, East Java, on Wednesday.

The ratings were based on assessments conducted throughout 2025 covering port management, technical operations, occupational health and safety, environmental management, energy efficiency, and service digitalization.

The GSPI ASRI program aims to encourage Indonesian ports to adopt greener and smarter operations by promoting safe, healthy, clean, and environmentally sustainable management supported by digital technology.

Speaking at the event, Zulkifli said ports play a critical role in Indonesia’s food logistics system by linking production areas, industrial zones, distribution centers, and consumer markets.

“Ports are the main nodes in the national food logistics system. Good port management is essential to ensure smooth distribution, reduce price disparities, and maintain food stability,” he said.

He added that expanding green and smart port practices could improve logistics efficiency and support the country’s food security objectives.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi called for broader participation in the GSPI ASRI program, saying the initiative should eventually be adopted across other modes of transportation in addition to the maritime sector.

“We hope more ports will join the ASRI movement. In the future, this program should extend beyond maritime transportation to other transport sectors,” Dudy said.

Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Corporate Secretary Widyaswendra said the recognition reflected the company’s efforts to improve environmental performance, workplace safety, and digitalization across its container terminal operations.

He said the company viewed green port development as an ongoing process rather than a one-time achievement, with initiatives focused on energy efficiency, environmental management, occupational safety, and technology adoption.

According to Widyaswendra, the awards for Banjarmasin and Bitung demonstrate the importance of integrating operational performance, safety, environmental management, energy efficiency, and digital services in terminal operations.

He said Pelindo Terminal Petikemas would continue encouraging other terminals under its management to strengthen the implementation of green and smart port principles according to their operational needs.

Widyaswendra added that the transition toward greener and smarter ports would require cooperation among the government, terminal operators, shipping companies, cargo handlers, service users, and other stakeholders across the port ecosystem.

He said such collaboration was essential because green and smart port development involves not only infrastructure investment but also improvements in governance, safety culture, resource efficiency, and digital integration across port services.
