PTP Nonpetikemas deployed electrified cargo equipment to unload 21,612 tons of steel billets, supporting Indonesia’s industrial supply chain while advancing lower-emission port operations at Tanjung Priok.
PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas) said it strengthened environmentally friendly port operations after unloading 21,612 tons of steel billets and other commodities at its Tanjung Priok terminal in North Jakarta on Tuesday.
The cargo arrived aboard MV Shanghai Bulker from Nansha Port, China, and was destined for steel producer PT The Master Steel Manufactory to support domestic manufacturing supply chains.
PTP Nonpetikemas said the unloading operations used electrified loading and unloading equipment as part of its transition toward lower-emission port services and environmentally sustainable terminal operations.
The company said the handling of the steel billet shipment highlighted the readiness of its Tanjung Priok branch to support the flow of strategic industrial commodities while maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards.
“To strengthen environmentally friendly operational services, PTP Nonpetikemas Tanjung Priok Branch has implemented electrification of port loading and unloading equipment,” Branch Manager Ruly Arief Dwiyana said in a statement.
He said the company aimed to support the smooth distribution of industrial raw materials through environmentally friendly, safe and productive services while maintaining a zero-accident operational principle.
PTP Nonpetikemas said it had implemented environmental management measures based on ISO 14001 standards and Indonesia’s PROPER environmental assessment program, including emission controls, energy efficiency measures and waste management based on reduce, reuse and recycle principles.
The company has also introduced operational innovations including LED lighting systems, overhead cranes to reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-powered equipment and the electrification of Gantry Luffing Cranes (GLCs), it said.
Corporate Secretary Fiona Sari Utami said multipurpose terminals played an important role in supporting national logistics connectivity and industrial raw material distribution.
“PTP Nonpetikemas continues to provide reliable and integrated multipurpose terminal services to support the distribution of strategic commodities, including raw materials for the steel industry,” Fiona said.
The company said consolidated throughput reached 12.4 million tons in the first quarter of 2026, up 3.84% from 11.9 million tons a year earlier, driven by growth in dry bulk, liquid bulk and general cargo traffic.
PTP Nonpetikemas’ Tanjung Priok branch contributed 4.03 million tons per cubic meter of throughput during the January-March period, accounting for 14% of total throughput within the Pelindo Multi Terminal Group, the company said.
The terminal’s operational activities include handling crude palm oil, refined palm products, bulk cement, rice, heavy equipment, vehicles and general cargo for domestic logistics distribution across Indonesia.
