Strong productivity growth and rising cargo volumes underscore Tanjung Pandan Port’s strategic importance in supporting commodity distribution, supply chains and economic activity across Bangka Belitung Islands
PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas) Tanjung Pandan Branch posted strong operational performance through April, highlighting its growing role in supporting logistics flows and economic activity across the Bangka Belitung Islands.
As one of the region’s key maritime gateways, the port serves as a critical link in the inter-island supply chain, facilitating the movement of commodities and ensuring the steady distribution of goods throughout the archipelago.
“We continue to improve operational performance and service quality to meet customers’ logistics needs while supporting regional economic growth,” said Asep Mardiyana, Branch Manager of PTP Nonpetikemas Tanjung Pandan.
The port handles a wide range of commodities, with packaged general cargo and bagged cargo accounting for the majority of throughput. Key commodities include steel products, electricity poles, piles, ceramics and kaolin, while dry bulk cargo consists mainly of palm kernel shells, splits and palm kernels.
Operational efficiency improved significantly during the first four months of 2026. Productivity for packaged general cargo reached 2,511 tons per ship per day (T/S/D), surpassing the target of 2,008 T/S/D by 25% and rising 68.1% from 1,494 T/S/D recorded in the same period a year earlier.
Productivity for bagged cargo reached 752 T/S/D, exceeding the target of 606 T/S/D by 24.1% and increasing 56.0% from 482 T/S/D in April 2025.
The gains reflect improvements in operational effectiveness and loading and unloading processes at the port.
Throughput totaled 168,060 tons through April, with bagged cargo remaining the largest contributor at 152,300 tons. Packaged general cargo volume rose 12.6% year-on-year to 12,900 tons from 10,200 tons in the corresponding period of 2025.
According to the company, the performance improvement was supported by higher cargo-handling activity, operational standardization and the implementation of digital service systems through the PTOS-M platform.
“This achievement reflects the commitment of our entire team to maintaining productivity and delivering the best possible service to customers,” Asep said.
To support cargo operations, the Tanjung Pandan Branch operates nine functional berth areas capable of serving general cargo and bulk vessels, along with open storage yards and warehouses for commodities requiring protected storage.
The port is also equipped with supporting cargo-handling equipment, including chassis units, head trucks and forklifts, helping improve operational efficiency and accelerate vessel turnaround times.
PTP Nonpetikemas said it will continue to enhance infrastructure, service quality and operational capacity as it seeks to strengthen Tanjung Pandan’s position as a strategic logistics hub in Bangka Belitung and support broader national economic growth.
