New weekly service connects North Sumatra with Singapore and Penang, aiming to improve export-import efficiency and strengthen Indonesia’s regional logistics connectivity
PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk (SMDR) has expanded its logistics service network by launching a new shipping route connecting Kuala Tanjung Port in North Sumatra with Singapore and Penang, Malaysia.
This public listed shipping company said the service, which operates on a weekly schedule, is aimed at improving the efficiency of export and import activities through direct access from Kuala Tanjung, one of Indonesia’s strategic logistics hubs.
“With a weekly schedule, this route is expected to increase the efficiency of export and import shipments with direct access through Kuala Tanjung,” Samudera management said in a statement on Monday.
The new route is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen Indonesia’s logistics connectivity with regional and global markets, while supporting trade flows from western Indonesia.
Samudera Indonesia said the expansion reflects its commitment to providing more integrated and competitive logistics solutions for domestic businesses amid growing demand for efficient supply chain services.
The launch also underscores increasing efforts by shipping and logistics operators to optimize connectivity through alternative ports outside Jakarta, as Indonesia seeks to improve the distribution of goods and reduce logistics costs nationwide.
