PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva (SPSL) is continuing the development of the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Estate (KIKT) in Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra, as part of efforts to strengthen integrated port-based industrial infrastructure and support Indonesia’s downstream industry agenda.
The industrial estate is directly connected to Kuala Tanjung Port and forms part of the government’s National Strategic Projects (PSN). Located along the Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest shipping routes, the area is positioned to support industrial activities linked to international trade and logistics.
KIKT is connected to the Medan–Kuala Tanjung toll road and is located near the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone, aluminum processing facilities, and large palm oil plantation areas, giving it strategic advantages for downstream industrial development.
Dewi Fitriyani, Senior Vice President of Corporate Secretariat at SPSL, said the development aligns with the government’s economic transformation agenda focused on downstream processing, productivity growth, and stronger integration with domestic and global supply chains.
“In line with the government’s 2026 policy direction to strengthen downstream industries and competitiveness, the integration of industrial estates with ports is expected to improve supply chain efficiency, strengthen industrial connectivity, and increase investment attractiveness in North Sumatra,” Dewi said.
KIKT is managed by PT Prima Pengembangan Kawasan (PPK), a subsidiary of SPSL, which is overseeing the initial phase of infrastructure development.
The company said construction of the estate’s main gate and access road has been completed, providing primary access to the development area. Additional supporting infrastructure will be developed in phases to prepare the estate as an integrated industrial and logistics hub.
SPSL is also strengthening governance and legal certainty related to the project’s assets. Earlier this year, PT PPK obtained 31 land certificates covering Phase I Areas A and B through legal assistance from the Batu Bara District Attorney’s Office.
The company said the move was aimed at strengthening asset security and supporting the implementation of good corporate governance.
Efforts to accelerate the Kuala Tanjung ecosystem development were also discussed during a coordination meeting held by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) and its subsidiaries in April, focusing on industrial estate expansion and improving port connectivity.
SPSL said the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Estate is expected to become an integrated port-led industrial and logistics area directly connected to international trade routes, supporting Indonesia’s economic growth and strengthening the country’s role in regional and global supply chains.
