TPK Koja Receives One Additional New QCC

Container terminal TPK Koja has taken delivery of another quay container crane (QCC), completing the arrival of the third unit under its ongoing equipment procurement programme aimed at boosting capacity and efficiency at Indonesia’s busiest port.

The crane arrived aboard the vessel HAI TENG 007, which berthed at TPK Koja on Thursday, January 15, following the delivery of two similar units in December, terminal officials said.

The transport and unloading of the heavy equipment were handled by PT Indo Formosa Trading, the Indonesian agent for China-based Sany Marine Heavy Industry.

The shipment was carried out alongside the delivery of two rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes destined for the Meratus MSA terminal.

“The vessel arrived yesterday and is ready to be unloaded. Overall, the process went smoothly, despite unfavourable weather conditions,” said H. Sunarno, Marketing Director of PT Indo Formosa Trading.

TPK Koja said the additional QCC is expected to strengthen the terminal’s loading and unloading capacity, supporting smoother cargo flows at Tanjung Priok Port, which serves as a key gateway for national and international trade.

The procurement forms part of a broader equipment upgrade package based on operational needs and technical assessments, the terminal’s management said. The programme aims to improve productivity, ease logistical bottlenecks and support the terminal’s transition toward environmentally friendly, or “green port”, operations.

The first batch of equipment, which arrived on December 12, included two QCCs and four electric rubber-tyred gantries (E-RTGs). The latest shipment completes the delivery of three new QCCs.

The newly delivered crane is designed to handle super post-Panamax vessels, with a reach of up to 63 metres, equivalent to around 22 container rows. This marks a significant upgrade from the existing Panamax-class cranes, which have a reach of about 35 metres, or 13 container rows. The E-RTGs will support container handling operations in the stacking yard.

All of the new equipment operates on electricity, in line with TPK Koja’s commitment to reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency, management said.
