The program reduces ship-to-ship transfer times by 70%, increases vessel-handling capacity, and drives the terminal’s throughput significant growth
PT Terminal Teluk Lamong’s (TTL) Nilam Container Terminal (TPK Nilam) recorded its highest monthly container throughput of 2026 after implementing the Easy Access Zone Integration (EAZI) program, which reduced vessel changeover times and increased berth utilization at Tanjung Perak Port.
The EAZI program, implemented from April 23 to May 25, was designed to reorganize Anchorage Zone 2 and improve vessel traffic management through coordination among terminal operators, regulators and other port stakeholders.
According to terminal data, average ship-to-ship (STS) changeover time fell from 4–5 hours to about 1.5 hours during the implementation period. The fastest turnaround was recorded on May 24, when the vessels Intan Daya 12 and Meratus Wakatobi completed the process in 31 minutes.
The efficiency gains enabled TPK Nilam to handle more vessel calls. Average weekly ship arrivals increased to 17 vessels from 14 previously, representing growth of about 21%.
“The implementation of the EAZI Program has delivered a measurable improvement in operational productivity,” TPK Nilam Terminal Head Retno Pujianto said.
“The reduction in ship-to-ship time has enabled us to accommodate more vessel traffic and strengthen service capacity. As a result, TPK Nilam recorded container throughput of 49,685 TEUs in May, the highest monthly volume this year,” he said.
Retno said the results showed that service capacity could be increased through operational improvements and collaboration among stakeholders, without relying solely on new infrastructure investment.
Arizal, Head of Division P2 at the Tanjung Perak Port Authority Office (KSOP), said the program had improved both vessel service efficiency and terminal productivity.
“Our joint evaluation shows faster service times and increased ship-handling capacity,” Arizal said. “Several areas, including vessel ETA accuracy, stakeholder coordination and berth-planning processes, will continue to be refined to ensure sustainable improvements.”
TTL President Director David P. Sirait said the program forms part of the company’s broader operational transformation strategy aimed at improving service quality and strengthening port competitiveness.
“The success of EAZI demonstrates that operational innovation, collaboration and optimal asset utilization can significantly improve service performance,” David said.
Following the results at TPK Nilam, TTL plans to expand the EAZI concept to Berlian Container Terminal to further improve berth management, vessel turnaround times and overall service efficiency.
The initiative supports ongoing efforts by Pelindo Group to develop a more integrated and efficient port ecosystem while enhancing the reliability of Indonesia’s logistics network.
