Indonesia’s position as G20 Presidency is expected to attract more and more foreign direct investment within the country, Chairman of Indonesia Logistics and Forwarders’ Association (ALFI) Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi has said.
As reported, Indonesia has taken the position (G20 Presidency) 2022, thus hosting the 2022 Meeting of this international forum.
“Business players expect the meeting of G20 this year will make further than just agreements among the governments. But, it has to make some agreements in trade, businesses, and real investments, especially investment to Indonesia as the host of the meeting,” Yukki said in a statement this morning, Wednesday, April 12.
“As business players, we expect them as they will benefit the business,” he said further.
Yukki noted that the position of G20 Presidency is a good opportunity for Indonesia to show Indonesia’s positive trade balance to the world. Indonesia always created a positive trade balance amid the pandemic covid 19 outbreak, for more than 22 months since May 2020.
Such good trade performance, according to Yukki, surely would attract more and more foreign investors to invest in the country, especially in logistics, the sector that got fast recovery.
“Logistic is the first getting impact of the pandemic. But, the industry remains the first getting fast recovery,” he said.
He explained, in March 2020 the logistics industry contracted by 32%, but four months later there was a recovery in the logistics industry sector, which consisted of goods and transportation logistics.
“It is proven that in 2021, with our positive economic growth of 3.2%, logistics grew around 5 to 6%. This means that there will be improvements and moving forward,” he said.
He said that economic recovery cannot be separated from the collaboration of many parties so that inclusiveness can be realized. Indonesia’s logistics and transportation sector is included in the global supply chain so its recovery requires collaboration to be successful, for example by collaborating with information technology (IT) companies that support the logistics industry.
“For example, IT companies that collaborate or partner with people who have expertise in logistics, for example. That’s one form of collaboration that I think is quite concrete. Collaboration can also be done by utilizing warehouses that have not been operated optimally,” he said.
Therefore, he added, it must be considered to encourage collaboration starting from farmers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), large and those engaged in the IT sector so that domestic products can be known abroad and are competitive.
