The MSC Sijing, measuring 172 meters in length, 28 meters in width, and with a draft of 8.5 meters, is a pivotal component of the MSC Koala Service. This service strengthens trade flows between Indonesia, China, and Australia. Upon arrival from Hong Kong on December 31, 2024, the vessel unloaded 71 containers before loading 144 containers bound for Adelaide, Australia.

Captain Mirko Odalovic of the MSC Sijing expressed satisfaction with the efficient operations. “We are ready to depart before New Year 2025 after staying at the port for more than 15 hours. We have finished our work and are now ready to sail,” he said during an interview with Indonesia Shipping Gazette.

Enhancing Regional Connectivity

The MSC Koala Service is designed to boost trade between Indonesia and major markets like China and Australia. According to Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS), China remains Indonesia’s largest trading partner, with non-oil and gas exports reaching $5.66 billion in October 2024. Imports from China also topped the charts at $6.43 billion.

This service marks the sixth new route introduced at IPC TPK in 2024, further solidifying Tanjung Priok’s role as a regional logistics hub. The port’s Terminal 3, managed by IPC TPK, facilitates transshipment for cargo moving along the Intra-Asia route, connecting Fremantle, Australia, and major East Asian destinations like Shanghai and Hong Kong.

With its strategic location and expanding connectivity, Tanjung Priok Port is poised for continued growth in 2025. The MSC Koala Service exemplifies the port’s commitment to enhancing trade efficiency and fostering stronger ties between Indonesia and its key trading partners.
