Semarang Container Terminal (TPK Semarang) is strengthening operational readiness to anticipate a potential increase in container traffic before and after the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday, implementing a series of measures aimed at maintaining smooth logistics flows during the peak period.
Based on internal operational simulations, the terminal expects the Yard Occupancy Ratio (YOR) to rise significantly during the holiday season. To mitigate potential congestion, the management is expanding yard capacity and optimizing container stacking areas, including the use of Line 2 and the operation of Samudera Pier 02 for container handling activities.
These measures are designed to ensure the yard occupancy level remains within safe operational limits while maintaining service reliability for shipping lines and logistics operators.
The terminal is also increasing stacking capacity by adding new stacking blocks in several areas, including Ex-Lamicitra, Ex-PEL, and Ex-Adam Wiji (MTI). In addition, two extra reach stackers will be deployed to support yard operations, while additional assistance will be provided to operators and yard planners to sustain productivity during the expected surge in activity.
To manage truck traffic and prevent congestion at the terminal gates, TPK Semarang is optimizing the use of the Truck Booking System (TBS), while also utilizing buffer areas and regulating the flow of incoming and outgoing containers.
I Nyoman Sutrisna, Terminal Head of Semarang Container Terminal, said the preparations were based on comprehensive evaluations and operational simulations conducted well in advance.
“Our readiness for Eid 2026 focuses on controlling yard congestion and ensuring smooth container flow,” Sutrisna said. “The addition of stacking blocks, strengthening of equipment, and adjustments to the operational team are aimed at keeping the Yard Occupancy Ratio under control while maintaining optimal service during the peak period.”
He added that performance evaluations from previous peak seasons have served as the basis for refining this year’s operational strategy. Capacity optimization, equipment reinforcement and improved vehicle flow management are expected to support uninterrupted loading and unloading activities during the peak logistics period surrounding both Chinese New Year and Eid al-Fitr.
Industry Stakeholders have welcomed the preparations.
Teguh Arif Handoko, Chairman of Indonesia Logistics and Forwarders’ Association ALFI/ILFA for Central Java and Yogyakarta, said proactive measures by the terminal would help maintain supply chain stability during the extended holiday period.

“We appreciate the proactive steps taken by TPK Semarang,” Teguh said. “Prepared infrastructure, equipment and policies that accelerate cargo flow are key to maintaining smooth logistics operations. We hope coordination and communication between the terminal and service users will continue to strengthen so that logistics activities remain controlled and efficient.”
With these preparations, Semarang Container Terminal aims to maintain operational reliability and provide service certainty for shipping companies, freight forwarders and logistics operators during the 2026 Eid holiday season.
