As many as 3,887 logistics players have been certified by National Agency for Profession Certification (BNSP). This proves that they are competent, Indonesia Logistics and Forwarders’ Association (ALFI/ILFA) has said.
ALFI Chairman Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi underlined that the association strongly supported the competency certification policy since it was firstly called in 2015, especially in the transportation and logistics sector.
This program, said Yukki, is very important considering that logistics services are strongly influenced by the capacity and competence of human resources. As a service company, he added, logistics service providers must be able to provide fast, precise, accurate, modern, integrated and effective and efficient service quality.
“This can not only be supported by the knowledge of the human resources who work in it, but also related to the skills and attitudes in serving customers,” Yukki noted.
ALFI/ILFA is taking quick steps in collaboration with the BNSP in educating assessors in the transportation and logistics sector.
Further, in association with Aptrindo (Indonesian Trucking Companies’ Association) and Asdeki (Indonesia Container Depot Association), ALFI/ILFA jointly established a Profession Certification Agency named LSP Logistik Insan Prima. This agency has been supported by assessors who graduated and received a certificate from BNSP.
“The competency test process has been carried out since 2015 and has been continued until now. And certifications have been done for as many as 3,887 logistics players. They have been recommended to be competent and have received competency certificates from the BNSP,” explained Yukki.
Competencies tested include warehouse operator schemes, warehouse supervisors, logistics administrative officers, freight forwarders and supply chain managers.
In addition to staff and field operators in warehouses and such managerial positions as well, competency tests are also conducted on freight transport drivers consisting of container transport drivers and dangerous goods transport drivers. Until now, as many as 444 drivers have been declared competent.
“This competency test is very necessary to ensure the safety of transporting goods and transportation safety on the road,” said Yukki.
Therefore, he added, the Government’s encouragement to ensure the provision of training and competency tests for drivers is very much needed. “Because training and competency testing in the transportation and logistics sector will provide great support in creating reliable and quality logistics operations for good and advanced logistics in Indonesia,” explained Yukki.
Echoing the view, Executive Director of AFFA (Asean Federation of Forwarders’ Associations) Suprapto Suwaji said, competency certification is also very necessary to accommodate the quality of service standards in the transportation and logistics sector at the ASEAN level. This is to welcome initiatives for ease of transportation and logistics in the region including AFAMT (multimodal sector) and ACTS (easy traffic of goods transit between ASEAN countries).
By certifying the competence of the transportation and logistics sector, according Suprapto, the service quality of logistics service providers will increase, in order to achieve smooth flow of goods and customer satisfaction.
“Job opportunities are also open not only in Indonesia but also in logistics service providers in the ASEAN region,” said Suprapto.
