ALFI Pushes Forwarders to Be Globally Connected

The year of 2022 will come to an end. The new year of 2023, with a series of challenges and opportunities with their own uniqueness after almost three years of unprecedented pandemic disruption hitting the supply chain, will come soon.

In view of these, the national logistics ecosystem needs to be connected globally with the active collaboration of actors in providing smart and inclusive solutions, according to ALFI (Indonesia Logistics and Forwarders’ Association) Chairman Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi.

On his remark speech to open the ALFI Annual Meeting (RAPIMNAS) and Special Meeting (MUNASUS) 2022 on Wednesday, December 14, Yukki noted that among the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic were the increasing cost of living, and geopolitical turmoil which is expected to continue until 2023.

“The toughest challenges hitting the logistics industry have been over, but new problems are emerging along with the possibility of economic growth,” he said.

Unlike the other years, the 2023 would be more challenging for logistics, calling for a better preparation for the players. A lesson learned from the pandemic is that well preparation is a key way for survival.

On the other hand, the supply chain will still be faced with various and unpredictable challenges and problems. “Therefore, in 2023 the professionalism of domestic and international forwarder companies that are tough and ready for anything is needed. Agility, flexibility, visibility and digitalization are the keys to overcoming future challenges,” he explained.

Yukki quoted the McKinsey report stating that 90% of world supply chain leaders have invested in digital supply chain management technology since 2021, with 80% expecting to continue investing in 2023 and beyond in order to achieve sustainability.

Echoing these, chairman of the Munas Organizing Committee Harry Sutanto said that ALFI as an association of national logistics forwarder companies sees these challenges as important and critical. “That is also the basis for holding RAPIMNAS and MUNASUS ALFI 2022 this time,” said Harry.

Entitled “Optimizing ALFI’s Role to Improve National Logistics Performance”, ALFI’s Rapimnas and National Munasus were also to discuss important matters related to national logistics throughout the country and were attended by DPWs from 30 Provinces throughout Indonesia.

The dynamic and interactive event has formulated several important matters for the National Logistics industry and ALFI in particular.

In this Forum ALFI again shows its commitment as an important element of national logistics by establishing an organizational mission, where ALFI as a key Association in national supply chain and logistics, encourages the capacity of members in a logistics ecosystem that is rooted nationally and connected globally towards active collaboration in providing solutions that smart and inclusive.

This mission statement is not without reason, because ALFI establishes the organization’s vision going forward that Logistics and supply chain must be connected digitally through a sustainable ecosystem. By still paying attention to important values, namely sustainable National Wisdom, integrity and openness.

Human Resources Competence

Meanwhile, logistics businesses in DKI Jakarta fully support any efforts of ALFI Headquarter (DPP) to encourage Collaboration of National Logistics Ecosystem to be globally connected.

Chairman of ALFI DKI Jakarta Adil Karim noted that ALFI DKI has encouraged all members to improve human resources competence in a bid to go with the most updated information and technology.

“We must prepare reliable human resources through education and training. Moreover, ALFI also has an ALFI Institute with international standard vocational standards, both UNSCAP and FIATA,” said Adil.

Entering 2023, added Adil, national and global logistics companies will face tough challenges in the midst of the global economic crisis issues related to energy and food.

“Therefore, better preparation is needed, one of which is strengthening the domestic network or fellow ALFI members throughout Indonesia to collaborate with each other because the domestic market is still potential,” said Adil.
