MNP Toll Access Will Make Container Delivery Four Times Faster

The Makassar New Port Access Toll – which its phase 1 and 2 ground breaking has just been done this week – will totally help shortening container distribution cycle-time between the port and hinterlands, a top rank executive from Ministry of Public Works (PURR Ministry) has said.

 

Early this week, on Monday, February 7, the PURR Ministry through Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) together with the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) have started construction of the Makassar New Port (MNP) Toll Access Road Phase 1 and 2.

The ground breaking was led by Secretary General of the PURR Ministry Mohammad Zainal Fatah, on behalf of PURR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

 

 

On behalf of Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Secretary General of the PURR Ministry Mohammad Zainal Fatah said the toll construction will be accelerated in line with instruction of President Joko Widodo.

 

He said this toll access is so essential and strategic as it will connect the port with production centres and hinterlands. In addition to fasten the cargo delivery and distribution, this access road will trigger to create new jobs.

 

Zainal said the toll road access will improve the connectivity of the MNP with the existing toll road, so that the travel time for container transportation will be four times faster.

 


This toll access is expected to help the port (MNP) realizing its target throughput of 900 thousand TEUs in 2023.

 

As reported earlier, there is evidence to say that the MNP has significantly triggered the South Sulawesi economic growth and an increase in exports from the province and surroundings. MNP has played as a centre for export activities from the Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua (Sulampua) regions.

 

South Sulawesi Government has claimed that the MNP has triggered the export of agriculture products increasing 11.45% last year and mining by 14.4%.

 

In addition to South Sulawesi, the MNP is very strategic for the economic growth of regions of Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua (Sulampua).

The economic growth in the Sulampua agglomeration area was recorded at 25.3% and contributed 3.25% to national economy. Makassar New Port has become the entry point for the supply of goods in Sulampua.
