Directorate General of Sea Transportation (Hubla) at the Ministry of Transportation continues to campaign the program of green shipping and energy efficiency to related regulators and business players from the sectors of transportation, energy, and environmental protection.
Today, Thursday, January 11, 2023, the directorate hosted a Focus Group Discussion on Green Shipping and Energy Efficiency with participants from related departments of the Ministry of Transportation, Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and National Research and Innovation Board.
In addition to those government institutions, some other participants also joint this FGD, including educational institutions of Institut Transportasi dan Logistik Trisakti; some associations including Indonesia National Shipowners’ Association (INSA), Indonesia Port Operators’ Association ABUPI, Indonesia Shipbuilders’ Association Iperindo.
Some top executives from related companies, both state-owned companies like state owned oil company PT. Pertamina, state owned port operator PT. Pelindo, BKI, and some leading private companies especially and shipping companies, also joint the FGD.
In his welcoming speech as the FGD committee chairman, Director of Marine Safety and Seafarers Dr. Hartanto, M.H., M.Mar,E said that this FGD is done in view of the fact that green shipping has been a key issue for the future shipping and it has been a corridor talk among shipping stakeholders in the world.

“In addition, this is in line with some of our regulations including the shipping bill 17/2008 and some regulation on reducing emission,” he said.
“Therefore, this FGD is mean to formulate how we follow up the issue of green shipping and how to implement it,” he said.
Meanwhile, on his opening remark, Director General of Sea Transportation Dr. Capt. Antoni Arif Priadi, M.Sc. appreciates this FGD as the green shipping has been a key issue among the maritime stakeholders and business players in the world.
“Green shipping has been a corridor and daily talk among maritime stakeholders in the world. As a part of world community, it is reasonable that we also concern with this issue,” said Antoni.
Moreover, as an archipelago country, Indonesia has high shipping activities in building connectivity among the islands.
Antoni also noted that IMO (International Maritime Organization) has actually set up road map toward zero emission by 2050. Some countries, like Denmark, have even more seriously to implement it.
Maritime Sector Counsellor from Danish Embassy Sidsel Marie Nygaard confirmed the Denmark seriousness in supporting the green shipping program. She even shared strategic paths of the country toward green shipping program to support zero emission by 2050. Denmark, she said, has signed MoU with Indonesia to tie up cooperation in three aspects. “In addition to green shipping and energy efficiency, Demark and Indonesia have built cooperation for the safety of seafarers and port state control,” she said for the FGD.

Antoni expects that this FGD will do roadmap on number of greenhouse gas at any port nationwide produced by any vessels called at those ports. “This roadmap will become reference to decide if reducing greenhouse gas emission is mandatory or voluntary at a certain port,” he said.
Some topics that would be presented during the FGD are: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emission from the Marine Transportation Sector by Centre for Sustainable Transportation Management at the Ministry of Transportation; Green Energy Alternative presented by Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; Availability of Low Sulphur Fuel Oil in Support of Green Shipping in Indonesia presented by State Owned Oil Company PT. Pertamina; Energy Efficiency presented by Indonesia Classification Bureau PT. Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia.
In addition, some best practices in implementing the green shipping and energy efficiency would be presented by some business players, including INSA with topic INSA readiness in the implementation of MARPOL Annex VI, State Port Operator PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo’s Efforts to Support Green Shipping), Shanghai Power Equipment Manufacture (Introduction to Innovative Industry on Scrubber System), Hempel (Introduction to Innovative Industry on Anti-Fouling System), and Corvus Energy with topic of Zero Emission Solution for the Ocean Space.
