Terminal Teluk Lamong Adds Two RTGCs

Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL), one of leading container terminals at Indonesia’s second biggest port Tanjung Perak, adds two units of Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane (RTGC). These new RTGCs are expected to speed up the process of loading/unloading activities at this terminal.

The new RTGCs will be placed at WSTA Block, a stacking area that will be operated under cooperation with logistics company PT Multi Terminal Indonesia (MTI) to improve services at the Teluk Lamong Terminal.

TTL is a subsidiary of Subholding Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP), while MTI is a subsidiary of Subholding Pelindo Solusi Logistik (SPSL).

The 2 RTGCs belonging to PT MTI were relocated from Tanjung Priok to Teluk Lamong Terminal using the barge Fiona 2501 measuring 270 feet and Tug Boat Trans 58, taking 10 days from the port of Tanjung Priok Jakarta to docking at the domestic pier of Teluk Lamong Terminal on 23 June 2024.

The process of unloading 2 RTGC units from the barge to the side of Teluk Lamong Pier until the RTGC is mobilized from Teluk Lamong pier to the container yard (CY) using a multiaxle tool takes 15 days.

TTL President Director, David Pandapotan Sirait explained that the addition of this equipment is part of TTL’s strategic initiative to increase unlocking capacity and support container loading and unloading performance.

“These 2 RTGCs will have an impact on reducing the waiting time for berthing or port stay at TTL, so that the loading/unloading service will be faster and more efficient,” he added.

These RTGCs were built with modern technology and energy efficiency. By having a gantry rail span of 7+1 rows and a lifting height of 6+1, these facilities allow TTL to carry out loading and unloading up to 7 rows and a height of 5 tiers with a handling capacity of 1,470 TEUs in one go.

The use of these RTGCs will support to increase the capacity of WSTA stacking area.

The addition of modern equipment and the application of advanced technology is certainly in line with TTL’s intensive business development efforts, proven by the terminal performance in the first half (H1) 2024.

In H1 2024, TTL enjoyed increasing ship calls and throughput of both container and breakbulk cargoes. “This spurs our enthusiasm in providing excellent service to service users,” explained David.

Teluk Lamong Terminal now has 10 units of Automated Stacking Crane (ASC), 5 units of Reach Stacker (RS), 5 units of Straddle Carrier (SC) and 2 units of RTGC to support loading and unloading activities at the stacking yard.

“This is the result of good team collaboration between TTL and Pelindo Regional 3, Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, KSOP Utama Tanjung Perak and PT MTI in collaborating from preparation to current operations,” explained David.
