Terminal Teluk Lamong Sets New Record for Fastest Dry Bulk Ship-to-Ship Process in Just 47 Minutes

PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL) has set a new record for the fastest dry bulk ship-to-ship transfer, completing the process in just 47 minutes. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 1 hour and 6 minutes, set in August 2024, for the time between the last line of the MV Nikolas D and the first line of the MV Darya Ruchi.

The process involved the MV Nikolas D unloading 54,980 metric tons of soybean meal at TTL, followed by the docking of the MV Darya Ruchi, which loaded 43,998 metric tons of the same commodity. This operation was carried out smoothly despite challenges posed by the rainy season and strong west winds.

This milestone was made possible through seamless coordination among TTL’s operations team, PT Pelindo Regional 3, Pelindo Jasa Maritim Subholding (SPJM), PT Pelindo Marine Service, and the shipping agents for both vessels. The expertise and decisiveness of the captains also played a critical role in ensuring the process was conducted safely and efficiently under challenging weather conditions.

David Pandapotan Sirait, President Director of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, highlighted the importance of early coordination in achieving this feat.

“Before the departure activities of the outgoing vessel are complete, the team immediately coordinates for the arrival of the next vessel. This allows the ship service team to prepare earlier, even in less favorable weather conditions,” David explained.

Since the start of 2024, TTL has prioritized optimizing ship-to-ship processes. This initiative aligns with directives from PT Pelindo President Director Arif Suhartono, who emphasized the need to accelerate ship-to-ship operations to enhance port efficiency and competitiveness during the 2024 Pelindo National Working Meeting (Rakernas). Through continuous evaluations, TTL has progressively reduced the process time from an initial target of 2 hours to under 1 hour.

“This faster ship-to-ship process reduces waiting time and port stay, optimizes mooring utilization, and ultimately strengthens TTL’s performance,” David added.

To ensure consistency, TTL and its partners have developed a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to guide future ship-to-ship operations. “This achievement is a special gift for TTL’s 11th anniversary, aligning with our theme of unstoppable innovation and growth, which drives our continuous development,” David said .
