The company’s Corporate Secretary emphasized that all operational aspects of the terminals are under control, ensuring smooth logistics throughout the holiday season.

The terminal operator noted that both the Berth Occupancy Ratio (BOR) and the Yard Occupancy Ratio (YOR) are at safe levels, allowing the terminals to efficiently carry out container operations without any congestion.

Additionally, there are no reports of ship queues or delays despite the increase in container traffic in the lead-up to Eid.
“We are ready to provide 24/7 services—non-stop—for container loading, unloading, and stacking activities throughout Eid 2025 to ensure smooth logistics flow,” said Widyaswendra, PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas’ Corporate Secretary, on Wednesday, March 19.

Surge in Container Flow

Terminals in key cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar are also prepared for the anticipated increase in container traffic. For instance, TPS Surabaya reported a rise in container volume from 120,857 TEUs in January to 125,474 TEUs in February 2025.

To handle this surge, TPS Surabaya has coordinated closely with Customs to manage export and import container stacking areas effectively, preventing congestion in the stacking yard.

As Widyaswendra explained, ship calls typically increase as the Eid holiday approaches, leading to a rise in container volumes. Additionally, restrictions on non-essential goods transport on highways have contributed to a temporary backlog of containers at the terminal.

However, by maintaining strong operational planning and control, PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas ensures its readiness to manage both dock operations and container stacking throughout the busy Eid period.
“We have carefully planned our operational patterns and ensured that both the berth and container yard are ready to accommodate the expected increasing ship calls and containers during Eid 2025,” he added.

Shipping and Logistics Remain operational for 24/7

In preparation for the expected surge in goods and passenger transport during Eid, the Indonesia National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) has assured that its fleet is prepared to meet demand, particularly for domestic shipping.

Hari Ratmoko

Chairman of INSA Semarang, confirmed that the fleet is ready to support the increased demand during the Eid period. “Our ships are fully prepared to accommodate both passenger and goods transportation during the holiday season,” said Hari.

He also emphasized that shipping companies will continue operating during Eid, with minimal disruption—likely only a single shift or adjustments to port work schedules.

However, Hari cautioned that delays in land transport could cause goods to accumulate at the port. “If restrictions on truck operations last too long, it could lead to congestion at the port, affecting the loading and unloading operations,” he warned.

He stressed the importance of avoiding prolonged disruptions, suggesting that truck operations should not be halted for more than 10 days to prevent the build-up of goods.

Syaifuddin Syahrudi (Ipho)

Logistics and forwarding companies also reassured that they are fully prepared to operate around the clock during the Eid holiday season.

Syaifuddin Syahrudi, Chairman of of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarding Association (ALFI) for South and West Sulawesi, emphasized that logistics operations would remain largely unchanged during the Eid period.

“We are accustomed to working 24/7. Even during Eid, many of us will continue to operate, although some may take a break on D-day, D-1, or D+1,” he explained.

Ipho, as Syaifuddin is often called, noted that while certain regions may face truck operation restrictions due to Eid regulations, these restrictions do not apply in the Sulawesi region. “For areas like Sulawesi, the operations will continue as usual,” he assured.

However, Ipho acknowledged that some regions may experience operational adjustments due to local restrictions or special rules during the Lebaran season.
