Equipped for Safety: PTP Nonpetikemas Empowers Dockers with Knowledge

A group of 50 dock workers gathered at Boombaru Port, Palembang on May 26, 2025, not to load cargo or direct cranes, but to learn how to stay alive and return home safely each day.

This wasn’t just another Monday on the job; it was a day dedicated to building a culture of safety, led by PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP) Nonpetikemas.

With hard hats lined up and high-visibility vests ready for distribution, the Safety Awareness event was more than a formal procedure, it was a visible and practical sign of PTP’s deepening commitment to safety and health (K3).

This initiative, a part of the company’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, brought together port officials, safety experts, and community leaders with one shared goal: keeping the port a safe place to work.

“Every worker matters,” said Ade Affandi, Branch Manager of PTP Palembang. Standing before the dock workers, his words carried both urgency and sincerity. “We want you to leave home healthy and return just the same. Providing PPE isn’t just a policy, it’s our promise,” he said.

The participants, mostly dockers (TKBM), the hands and backs behind the port’s daily operations, were trained in crucial safety protocols: how to use personal protective equipment (PPE), what to do in emergencies, and why strict adherence to safety procedures could mean the difference between life and death on the docks.

Ahyani Subur, Head of the Palembang TKBM Cooperative, echoed the message. “We’re not just talking about following rules; we’re talking about being ready, being aware, and respecting the risks,” he said.

“This readiness protects you, your families, and everyone working beside you,” he said further.

The importance of discipline and compliance was further reinforced by the Head of KSOP Class I Palembang, who reminded workers that PPE wasn’t optional, it was essential.

The day featured expert-led sessions by safety professionals, including Jimmy Tiarlina, SKM MKM, HIMa, and Dian Yuni Astusi, SH, MH, from PT Bina Wahyu Ramadhani.

Representatives from Pelindo Regional 2 Palembang, including Finance and HR Manager Imron Syamsi, were also present, underlining cross-organizational support for the initiative.

As the training concluded, workers received tangible symbols of the day’s lessons: bright helmets and safety vests, tools that would help shield them from the hazards of one of the world’s most dangerous jobs.
