Govt, Pelindo Target Lower Logistics Costs Through Data Harmonization

Government and state-owned port operator Pelindo have launched a joint effort to streamline port logistics at Tanjung Priok, the country’s busiest port, in a move aimed at slashing national logistics costs and boosting global competitiveness.

Senior officials from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and PT Pelindo Regional 2 met on Monday at the Pelindo Tanjung Priok Branch Office in North Jakarta, where they discussed improving key performance indicators: Ship Turnaround Time (TAT) and Container Dwelling Time (DT). The agenda included a field visit to assess real-time port operations.

“The government is targeting logistics costs to fall to 8 percent of GDP. Improving service efficiency at ports is a national priority,” said Ismariny, Acting Assistant Deputy for National Logistics Development at the Coordinating Ministry.

She stressed the importance of data harmonization and standardized definitions for performance benchmarks to ensure alignment with global standards.

Indonesia has long struggled with high logistics costs — currently estimated at over 20 percent of GDP — due in part to infrastructure bottlenecks, bureaucratic overlap, and fragmented data systems.

Pelindo, the country’s largest port operator, said it supports the push for greater efficiency but emphasized that port services are only one link in the broader logistics chain.

“Port operations are just one component. To lower costs sustainably, we need tight coordination across ministries and institutions,” said Yandri Trisaputra, Executive General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Tanjung Priok.

Monday’s discussion will inform policy recommendations and contribute to the drafting of a Presidential Regulation on Strengthening National Logistics, currently under review. The regulation is expected to address cross-agency data integration and performance alignment across Indonesia’s logistics ecosystem.

Participants later toured Pelindo’s Integrated Planning and Control Room, where port operations are monitored through a centralized digital platform — part of a broader digital transformation initiative.
