Container terminal operator IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK), a subsidiary of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, has reported a significant boost in container handling performance for January 2025. In January 2025, the total container throughput across all its terminals reached 280,743 TEUs, marking a 23.2% increase compared to the 227,885 TEUs recorded during the same period last year.
This increase is attributed to the growth in exports of non-oil and gas commodities, including rubber, pulp, fertilizer, and agricultural goods such as coffee, bananas, and black pepper, primarily from various regions in Sumatra.
“In tandem with this growth, the number of ship calls also saw a rise of 5.9%, with 412 calls arriving in January 2025 compared to 389 units in January 2024,” said Pramestie Wulandary, Corporate Secretary & External Relations of IPC TPK.
According to data from the National Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia’s export value in January 2025 amounted to USD 21.45 billion, reflecting a 4.68% increase from USD 20.52 billion in January 2024. Additionally, Indonesia recorded a trade balance surplus of USD 3.45 billion in January 2025, up from a surplus of USD 2.24 billion in December 2024. This growth signifies a strong uptick in the country’s exports compared to the previous year.
The notable performance of IPC TPK in January 2025 is attributed to effective collaboration among stakeholders. The company’s ongoing operational transformation has not only improved service efficiency and effectiveness but also ensured that all operational resources were fully prepared to manage the increased goods flow during peak periods.
Key factors contributing to the growth in IPC TPK’s container volume include a rise in container traffic at the Tanjung Priok and Pontianak areas, increased exports of several commodities from Southern Sumatra, and a growth in domestic cargo at the Teluk Bayur Area.
“We remain committed to providing transformational operational services that prioritize user satisfaction and ensure smooth logistics operations, even during the long holiday period at the end of January,” Pramestie said.
