State port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia Regional 4 and the Boalemo Regency Government have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of Tilamuta Port in Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province.
This partnership marks a strategic step toward bolstering regional economic growth and enhancing maritime connectivity in Eastern Indonesia.
The MoU was signed last week at Pelindo’s Makassar office by Executive Director of Pelindo Regional 4, Abdul Azis, and the Regent of Boalemo, Rum Pagau.
In his statement, Abdul Azis emphasized Pelindo’s commitment to supporting port development across the region, particularly in Gorontalo.
“We recognize the significant potential of Tilamuta Port in driving logistics distribution and boosting the local economy. Through our collaboration with the Boalemo Government, we are optimistic that the port will enhance service quality and support trade, fisheries, and tourism in the area,” said Azis.
Boalemo Regent Rum Pagau expressed his appreciation for Pelindo’s active role in advancing maritime infrastructure.
“This MoU marks the beginning of a strategic partnership to accelerate the development and modernization of Tilamuta Port. We hope this initiative will open broader trade access, improve community welfare, and generate new employment opportunities,” he stated.
The agreement outlines the scope of cooperation in developing and managing Tilamuta Port, located within Boalemo Regency’s administrative area, under Pelindo’s stewardship.
Tilamuta Port plays a vital role as a regional logistics hub, facilitating the movement of goods and services within Boalemo and neighboring areas. The planned development aims to expand port capacity, reduce cargo handling times, and ensure smoother logistics operations—particularly in western Gorontalo.
As a designated Regional Feeder Port, Tilamuta holds the potential to become a key distribution gateway for southern Gorontalo, complementing Anggrek Port in the north. Its extensive hinterland includes Pohuwato Regency and parts of Gorontalo Regency, serving as a feeder link to Bitung Port in North Sulawesi.
The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone for both Pelindo Regional 4 and the Boalemo Regency Government. It lays the foundation for long-term collaboration in building a modern, efficient, and competitive port.
Through this partnership, Pelindo aims not only to accelerate the transformation of the local port sector but also to foster regional integration, strengthen the logistics ecosystem, and act as a catalyst for economic development in Eastern Indonesia.
