PT Pelindo Multi Terminal (SPMT), a subholding of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) specializing in the multipurpose sector, is creating new opportunities for synergy and collaboration in port modernization. This initiative reflects SPMT’s strong commitment to enhancing Indonesia’s logistics competitiveness on the global stage.
“We welcome the involvement of various stakeholders in the development of modern and efficient port infrastructure,” stated Ary Henryanto, President Director of Pelindo Multi Terminal, during the National Discussion event titled “Masa Depan Maritim Indonesia pada Era Pemerintahan Baru Seperti Apa?” – How is the Future of Indonesian Maritime in the New Government Era – held by Ocean Week in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 19.
“This partnership will fast-track the transformation of our ports, providing substantial economic benefits for the nation,” Ary added.
He pointed out that logistics costs in Indonesia remain relatively high, driven by factors such as transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and administrative costs. Key challenges facing the industry include complex regulations, inefficiencies across land and sea value chains, and imbalances in supply and demand.
“Ports are vital to enhancing maritime connectivity. By improving port performance, we can reduce ship waiting times (port stays), optimize sailing durations, and ultimately lower overall logistics costs,” Ary explained.

To address these issues, SPMT is taking two strategic actions: enhancing port service performance and developing a more robust maritime ecosystem. These steps aim to improve port operations, boost connectivity, and increase the efficiency of shipping networks—ultimately contributing to a reduction in national logistics costs.
As a part of Pelindo, SPMT is also working on transforming services to reduce port stay times through service standardization and the integration of ports with industrial zones.
The integration of industrial areas and ports is key to achieving cost efficiencies. “We firmly believe that through collaboration with multiple stakeholders, we can create modern, efficient, and globally competitive ports,” Ary said as a closing statement.
