State-owned port operator PT Pelindo has implemented a series of strategic measures to ensure optimal service during the 2025 Eid homecoming season as it outlined at a press conference held at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs/BUMN) Media Center in Jakarta on Thursday (March 13)
Pelindo’s Managing Director, Putut Sri Muljanto, elaborated on the company’s operational strategies for managing the increased flow of passengers and vehicles at its passenger and Ro-Ro terminals.
These strategies are aimed at ensuring smooth loading and unloading operations during the 2025 Eid homecoming period.
“Pelindo has taken preventive measures to maintain a zero-accident record,” said Putut.
This includes conducting safety management walkthroughs with maritime agencies, inspecting and monitoring terminal equipment, and ensuring emergency services such as fire-fighting facilities and health rooms with medical staff on standby.
“Additionally, we are actively disseminating important information throughout the passenger terminal areas,” explained Putut.
As part of their operational strategy, Pelindo has focused on improving access to Ciwandan Port in Banten to help alleviate congestion at the Merak-Bakauheni ferry port. Bojonegara Port, located to the north of Ciwandan, will serve as an alternative if queues build up at Merak or Ciwandan Ports.
Pelindo would waive port service fees for inter-island ferry ships traveling between Java and Sumatra during the 2025 Eid sea transportation period at Ciwandan Port.
This includes waiving fees for pilot services, tugboats, mooring, docking, and port passes to support smooth and safe operations during the homecoming period.
“In addition to waiving fees at Ciwandan Port, Pelindo is offering incentives by providing a 50% discount on special stacking service bills for unloading and importing goods, as well as for filled containers during the goods transport restrictions between March 24, 2025, and April 8, 2025,” Putut added.
Given the potential for extreme weather during the Eid season, Putut also urged travelers to stay informed about weather forecasts provided by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). “We encourage the public to monitor weather updates and adjust their travel schedules accordingly to ensure a safe and comfortable journey.”

Echoing this, Putri Violla, Spokesperson for the Ministry of SOEs, stressed the importance of paying attention to weather conditions for a smoother and more enjoyable homecoming experience.
In her remarks, Putri Violla emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to making the public’s Eid experience calm and enjoyable.
“The Ministry of SOEs is dedicated to serving the public, ensuring a smooth and pleasant Eid and Ramadan period. We have carefully planned and prepared to overcome any challenges during this season,” said Putri Violla.
To further enhance the safety and comfort of travelers, Pelindo is taking additional precautions ahead of the peak of the 2025 Eid homecoming flow. These measures include setting up tents with extra seating, providing portable toilets, adding more operational staff, securing support from the military and police (TNI-Polri).
Pelindo will also intensify passenger luggage inspections with X-ray and walk-through metal detectors. These steps aim to ensure safer movement between terminals.
“Pelindo has carefully prepared technical and service improvements to deliver the best possible results. This is our commitment to providing a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable homecoming experience for all travelers,” Putut said in conclusion.
