PTP Nonpetikemas Bengkulu Resumes Operations After Channel Reopening

PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas) has resumed operations at Bengkulu Port following the reopening of its shipping channel, which had been suspended due to silting that disrupted vessel access.

Operations recommenced in early July at the DCK 01 and DCK 04 piers after dredging efforts cleared the channel, allowing the port to handle cargo again, an essential step in restoring the flow of logistics and commodity trade in the region.

The Bengkulu branch of PTP Nonpetikemas, a non-container terminal operator, carried out a successful trial operation at the Samudera Pier to confirm readiness. The test, conducted in coordination with state-owned port operator PT Pelindo Regional 2 Bengkulu and the Class II Port Authority and Harbormaster Office (KSOP) of Pulau Baai Bengkulu, involved the vessel TB TITAN 37 / BG NAUTIKA 22.

Around 4,000 metric tons of coal were loaded using a truck-losing ramp door system during the trial, demonstrating that both the pier and the channel are now fully operational.

“We appreciate the support and synergy from Pelindo and KSOP Bengkulu,” said Mochammad Choiron Yusuf, Branch Manager of PTP Bengkulu. “With the successful trial loading of 4,000 tonnes of coal, we are optimistic that the Samudera Pier will operate at full capacity and contribute sustainably to regional output.”

The reopening is expected to bolster coal exports and strengthen Bengkulu’s role in supporting Indonesia’s commodity supply chain. The port serves as a hub for dry bulk goods, including coal, limestone, clinker, and shells, alongside liquid cargo such as crude palm oil and asphalt. It also handles general cargo like heavy equipment and construction materials.

Choiron added that with shipping traffic now flowing smoothly, the port is well-positioned to support the local economy and meet the logistical needs of the region.
