TPK Bagendang Runs Normal Amid Dockers’ Protest

Operations at the Bagendang Container Terminal (TPK Bagendang) continued without disruption on Monday, even as stevedoring workers (dockers) staged a protest at the Sampit Port Authority (KSOP) office, operator PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) said.

Akhmad Fajar, Terminal Head of TPK Bagendang, said loading and unloading activities remained on schedule after early coordination with the local stevedores’ cooperative ensured workers assigned to duty stayed on the job.

“Before the protest, we coordinated with the TKBM Cooperative to make sure members on shift continued working as usual. Thank God, the response was very positive and there were no strikes at Bagendang or Sampit ports,” Fajar told reporters.

He said vessel operations and container services were running as planned, with no delays for shipping lines, service users or cargo owners.

Gusti Muchlis, head of sea transportation traffic and port business at the Class III KSOP office, said the demonstration was peaceful and did not affect port throughput.

“We ensure port activities continue operating normally. Today’s action was part of a national labour instruction, but loading and unloading at both Sampit and Bagendang ports remain unchanged. KSOP will follow up on the workers’ concerns through coordination with regulators,” Gusti said.

KSOP said loading and unloading activities at Bagendang comply with the transport ministry’s regulations and that port governance remains in line with national standards.
