Vietnam’s largest port operator, Saigon New Port (SNP), visited Indonesia’s PT Terminal Teluk Lamong in Surabaya this week to benchmark its digital and green port systems as the company eyes semi-automated upgrades across its own terminals.
SNP, which controls 57% of Vietnam’s national container market and 90% of throughput in the Ho Chi Minh City area, is preparing to introduce semi-automated technology at future facilities. Teluk Lamong was selected for the benchmarking visit due to its pioneering use of environmentally friendly and semi-automated port operations in Indonesia.
“We are proud to share our experience in implementing Automatic Stacking Cranes (ASCs), which have been operational since our inception,” said Syaiful Anam, Senior Manager for Corporate Secretary and Legal Affairs at Teluk Lamong. “This exchange supports our long-standing commitment to sustainable and efficient logistics.”
The delegation from SNP was joined by Australia-based Realtime Business Solutions (RBS), a provider of port operating systems that previously collaborated with Teluk Lamong on digital transformation.
SNP Executive Vice President Nguyen Phuong Nam praised the Surabaya terminal’s operational model. “Teluk Lamong reflects global trends in modern port development,” he said. “The insights gained here will help guide our own service improvements and competitiveness.”
The visit concluded with a field tour showcasing the integration of Teluk Lamong’s semi-automated equipment with its digital infrastructure.
