Eastern Indonesia Logistics Significantly Boosts TPK Ambon Throughput Rise

Container traffic at the Ambon Container Terminal (TPK Ambon) rose in 2025, underlining its growing role in supporting logistics and trade flows across Maluku and eastern Indonesia.

The terminal handled 112,502 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2025, up from 108,528 TEUs a year earlier, according to terminal operator data. The increase reflects stronger regional trade activity and operational improvements at one of eastern Indonesia’s key logistics hubs.

TPK Ambon has positioned itself as a critical node in inter-island distribution, supporting connectivity in Maluku and surrounding regions, where supply chains depend heavily on maritime transport.

Yandi Sofyan Hadi, head of TPK Ambon, said the growth was driven by a series of operational transformations aimed at improving efficiency and service reliability.

“The 2025 container throughput shows that TPK Ambon is playing an increasingly important role in keeping logistics flows smooth in Maluku and eastern Indonesia,” Yandi said.

“Through operational transformation, we are working to deliver more efficient, reliable and competitive services,” he said further.

The terminal plans to build on the gains next year, focusing on digitalisation, operational efficiency and workforce development, he added.

“In 2026, we will continue strengthening digital services, improving efficiency and enhancing human resource capacity to support sustainable logistics growth in the region,” Yandi said.

During 2025, TPK Ambon implemented measures to optimise loading and unloading operations, improve equipment reliability and strengthen staff competencies. The initiatives helped lift operational performance, including vessel service productivity and box ship hours, the terminal said.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the improvements. H.B. Sirait, chairman of the Maluku chapter of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI/ILFA), said the rise in container traffic reflected consistent performance and equipment readiness.

“We see PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Ambon working consistently to maintain the performance and readiness of loading and unloading equipment, both on board and on land, which has supported positive container traffic growth in 2025,” Sirait said.
