New 24-hour weekend ferry operations on the Hunimua–Waipirit route aim to improve mobility, support logistics distribution and strengthen connectivity across Maluku and Eastern Indonesia.
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has launched 24-hour ferry operations every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the Hunimua–Waipirit route, a move aimed at improving passenger mobility and supporting logistics distribution in Maluku.
The policy, which took effect on June 1, expands service availability on one of Eastern Indonesia’s busiest ferry routes and reflects growing demand for more flexible and reliable transportation links between regions.
ASDP President Director Heru Widodo said the company would continue to strengthen connectivity while ensuring safety and service quality.
“The implementation of 24-hour operations every weekend is part of ASDP’s effort to provide smoother and more accessible transportation services for the public. We will continue to evaluate and optimize operations while prioritizing safety, security and passenger comfort,” Heru said.
The company previously operated round-the-clock services on the route during peak travel periods, including the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday, Easter and Eid al-Adha. According to ASDP, the measure helped reduce vehicle and passenger queues while maintaining traffic flow at ferry terminals.
To support the expanded schedule, six vessels have been deployed on the route, including four ASDP-operated ferries: KMP Erana, KMP Inelika, KMP Rokatenda and KMP Terubuk.
ASDP said the additional service is expected to improve schedule reliability and accommodate growing demand for passenger and freight transportation between Ambon Island and Seram Island.
Service enhancements are also being supported by the implementation of the Ferizy digital ticketing platform, which allows passengers to book crossings and purchase tickets before arriving at the port.
Syamsuddin Tanassy, General Manager of ASDP’s Hunimua Branch, said the system has helped streamline passenger and vehicle movements while reducing congestion at terminals.
“Through Ferizy, customers can plan their trips in advance and purchase tickets online, making travel more efficient and helping minimize queues at the port,” Syamsuddin said.
He encouraged passengers to buy tickets before departure through the Ferizy platform and ensure that all passenger and vehicle information is entered accurately to facilitate the boarding process.
Between January and May 2026, the Hunimua–Waipirit route handled 163,444 passengers and 136,398 vehicles, underscoring its importance as a key transportation corridor supporting mobility and economic activity in Eastern Indonesia.
ASDP said it remains committed to expanding reliable and modern ferry services as part of broader efforts to strengthen national connectivity and support regional economic development.
