IPC TPK Expands Clean Water Access for Muaro Jambi Communities

PT IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) has built a clean water facility in Muaro Jambi, aiming to improve access to safe water and support sustainable community development in areas facing recurring shortages.

The project, located in Mengkuang Belayar hamlet in Talang Duku village, Taman Rajo district, was developed under the company’s social and environmental responsibility programme, which focuses on addressing basic community needs around its operational areas.

Access to clean water remains a challenge in several parts of Indonesia, particularly in rural and drought-prone areas. IPC TPK said the initiative is part of its broader commitment to improving living standards while contributing to local resilience.

“Clean water is not just a basic necessity, but the foundation for health, quality of life and social activities,” said Corporate Secretary Daniel Setiawan. “Through this programme, we aim to ensure communities have more adequate and sustainable access, while strengthening our role as part of the solution.”

Prior to the project, residents in the area relied on limited and often unreliable water sources for daily use, particularly during dry periods. The lack of access affected household activities and community services, including religious practices.

To address this, IPC TPK constructed a drilled well equipped with supporting infrastructure designed to provide a reliable and safe source of water. The facility is intended for shared community use, covering household consumption and public needs.

Local officials said the project has already eased pressure on residents who frequently face water shortages.

“On behalf of the village government and residents, we express our gratitude for this assistance,” said Muslim, head of Talang Duku village. “This facility is a significant relief, especially during drought, and also supports religious activities. We hope it will provide long-term benefits.”

Since becoming operational, the facility has distributed more than 125 cubic metres of clean water, equivalent to 125,000 litres, over an 18-day period. Daily output has averaged close to 7,000 litres, enough to meet the needs of hundreds of residents.

IPC TPK said the programme is designed not only to provide infrastructure but also to ensure long-term sustainability. The company has involved local communities in the management and maintenance of the facility to support continued operation and maximise its benefits.

The initiative also aligns with Indonesia’s broader development priorities, including the government’s “Asta Cita” agenda, which emphasises strengthening national resilience through the fulfilment of basic needs such as access to water.

In addition, the programme supports global sustainability targets, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation.

IPC TPK said it will continue to develop corporate social responsibility initiatives that deliver measurable and lasting impact, while encouraging community participation to ensure sustainability.

The company added that such programmes reflect a growing emphasis among businesses on environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, as firms seek to balance operational performance with social responsibility.
