Teluk Bayur Container Throughput Rises 5.3% in Q1

Container throughput at the Teluk Bayur Container Terminal rose 5.3% in the first quarter of 2026 from a year earlier, indicating stronger logistics activity in Indonesia’s West Sumatra region, operator PT IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) said.

Volume reached 27,188 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in January–March, up from 25,814 TEUs in the same period of 2025, the company said.

“The 5.3% growth in the Q1 (first quarter) of 2026 indicates an increase in container volume. We continue to ensure optimal terminal services to support smooth distribution of goods,” Corporate Secretary Daniel Setiawan said in a statement.

The increase was driven mainly by a surge in exports of key commodities. Shipments of gambier and palm oil more than doubled, while rubber exports rose 6.18% and animal feed increased 2.34%, the company said.

IPC TPK, the sole container terminal operator in the Teluk Bayur area, said it is strengthening coordination with shipping lines and service users to maintain operational stability amid fluctuating port activity.

Official data support the upward trend. Statistics from the West Sumatra Provincial Statistics Agency showed export value rose 42.94% in January–February 2026 compared with a year earlier, while imports jumped 110.58%. Major export destinations included India, Pakistan and China, while imports were led by Singapore, Malaysia and Canada.

IPC TPK said it aims to sustain growth by increasing service capacity and enhancing collaboration with stakeholders.
